Imaging, light detection and lighting are increasingly linked together in order to provide new products like LIDAR and silicon photonics and new functions like depth-of-focus, 3D imaging and gas sensing. Together these business opportunities will form a market worth more than $15B in 2022, but before realising that, manufacturers must overcome incredible challenges.
The winners must devise innovative solutions in design, light management and optimization, front end manufacturing, packaging, and integration at the silicon, packaging and module level. At a system level, they must integrate light sources including VCSELs, LEDs and laser diodes with image sensors, light detectors, advanced optics, and focus management and packaging. This will be very complex to design and manufacture with the right cost structure and supply chain, but will be extremely rewarding for those that achieve commercial success.
To analyse and provide an overview of these applications, markets and technical challenges Yole Développement and Piseo are running a half-day Seminar on June 21 afternoon.
