BMW panoramic vision head-up display set for series production in 2025

At BMW’s 2023 Annual Conference, Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of management, confirmed that the OEM’s new head-up display, the BMW Panoramic Vision, will go into production in 2025 with the first Neue Klasse models. 

At present, the German manufacturer is creating a new technological platform for the Neue Klasse vehicles, which BMW states “will set new standards in digitalization, sustainability and design for electric cars”.

Using projection technology, BMW Panoramic Vision projects a display across the entire width of the vehicle’s cabin. Information for both the driver and passengers is shown on a dark-coated area at the lower edge of the windscreen using a higher light intensity and contrast. This ensures a sharp image is delivered with relevant information being available when needed.

“The windscreen becomes a single large display with our new BMW Panoramic Vision, opening up completely new possibilities for the design of our vehicles,” said Frank Weber, member of the board for development at BMW. “Whether the driver decides themselves which information they want to display in their own field of vision, or that all occupants can see the entire content.

“The revolutionary projection and the significantly more clearly structured cockpit give an impressive new feeling of space and driving. We are taking our proven ‘eyes on the road – hands on the wheel’ slogan to a new level.”
