Cielo is currently creating the next generation of inertial sensor technology. The technology is futuristic and is one of the most advanced in the field of Optic Sensors.
High performance gyroscopes are based on two competing optical sensing technologies – Ring Laser Gyroscope (RLG) and Closed-Loop Fiber optic Gyroscope (CL-FOG). Both offer outstanding results but implementation is large, bulky and expensive. Small size technologies, such as MEMS sensors do not offer the necessary performance for high grade navigation and attitude determination. Emerging vibrating gyro technologies (VRG, HRG) lack the performance and are still too bulky to offer the desired SWAP revolution for high grade navigation.
Cielo, with funding from the Israel Ministry of Defence – Directorate of Defence Research & Development (IMOD DDR&D), is creating now the next generation of inertial sensor technology. The technology is futuristic and is one of the most advanced in the field of Optic Sensors. Moreover, this new optic-based technology is promising a huge leap in SWAP, thus offering high accuracy, comparable to CL-FOG performance, at the size of a MEMS sensor.
The new technology is based on Chip-Integrable High-Q Optical Cavities. We are bringing down the size of the sensor – from its current size to that of a fingernail – by using the latest integrated photonic technology. This helps to dramatically reduce the cost of the sensor, whilst improving the performance and overall robustness. The new technology ensures higher reliability and delivers superior repeatability unit-to-unit.
