Hyundai, Kia, Woowa Brothers developing robot delivery platform

Hyundai Motor and affiliate Kia. will join hands with Woowa Brothers, South Korea’s top food delivery app operator, to develop unmanned delivery robots.

The three companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding to start a research and development (R&D) project on robotics mobility and distribution for delivery services.

Based on the agreement, the companies will jointly develop robotics mobility platforms for unmanned delivery services and expand robot-based smart distribution systems.

Hyundai and Kia will tap into their pool of robotics technology accumulated throughout the advancement of the automobile industry to develop robotics mobility platforms that are capable of both indoor and outdoor delivery, as well as an integrated mobility control system.

Woowa Brothers will utilize Hyundai and Kia’s mobility platform to operate a robot delivery service in sync with its delivery order system.

Robotics mobility will gradually gain presence in the quick commerce industry, which includes food delivery as well as the delivery of everyday goods, Hyundai and Kia said.

The two carmakers joined hands to develop robots optimized for moving throughout various building structures, those capable of payment transactions, and those designed for climbing multi-story buildings such as apartments.
