LG Electronics and LG Display will supply an infotainment system for Mercedes-Benz’s new S-Class luxury sedan.
LG Electronics will provide the internal control system, while LG Display will supply plastic organic light emitting diode (P-OLED) panels for it, according to foreign media reports. Until now, LG Display has been supplying LCD panels to Mercedes-Benz. This will mark the first time that LG Display supplies OLED panels to the German carmaker.
Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil the new S-Class sedan in September.
A vehicle infotainment system allows a driver to control his car and check information on its display. The driver can use navigation services, smartphone connection, and content playbacks through the display.
Industry insiders predict that Mercedes-Benz’s adoption of the LG Display and LG Electronics products for the new S-Class may guide to its use of the LG products for the mid-sized E-Class sedan.
