SVOLT signed the lease for the future module and high-voltage storage production facility.

Another milestone for the development of SVOLT’s battery production facility in Saarland, Germany: On December 9, 2022, SVOLT represented by Zhang Feng, Senior Vice President SVOLT Energy Technology , Kai-Uwe Wollenhaupt, President SVOLT Europe, and SVOLT Europe Vice Presidents Maxim Hantsch-Kramskoj and Andreas Weiglein, together with executive board members Rita Gindorf-Wagner and Thomas Schuck from Projektgesellschaft Batteriefabrik Heusweiler (PBH), symbolically signed the lease for the future module and high-voltage storage production facility. The facility is being built on the site of the former “Laminate Park” in Heusweiler-Eiweiler. The 15-year lease emphasizes SVOLT’s long-term plans in the German state of Saarland and secures a possible right of first refusal as well.

Saarland’s Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger and Minister for Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke accompanied the ceremony in the new SVOLT offices in Heusweiler, where the first employees have already moved in. The official, formal signing of the lease by SVOLT already took place on October 28, 2022, and was confirmed by PBH on November 3, 2022.

Timeline for the use of office and production spaces

The facility’s construction is based on the master planning commissioned by gwSaar in 2021 and developed in cooperation with SVOLT. The construction company Goldbeck is the general contractor carrying out the necessary on-site conversion measures in Heusweiler on behalf of PBH, a spin-off of SHS-Strukturholding Saar. To ensure that the project is completed at a high level of sustainability and to keep the conversion measures to a minimum, the existing buildings on site will continue to be used as far as possible. Therefore, the centrally located building complex with a total area of around 23,000 m² as well as the gate and the administration building will be retained. Some areas were deconstructed to create space for new buildings with about 13,000 m² as well as necessary logistics areas and outdoor facilities.

The first part of the building (Production 1) is scheduled to be in use from April 2023 onward, with the other parts of the building to follow in stages. Completion of the facility has been contractually agreed to be finalized by mid-2024. SVOLT employees have already moved into the new administration building to ensure efficient cooperation on-site with project partners PBH and Goldbeck.
