Tracking the silicon at the heart of the AI data center
The data center compute stack is being redrawn in real time, as CPUs, GPUs, AI ASICs, DPUs/SmartNICs, and switch silicon compete and combine to keep pace with AI infrastructure buildout. Hyperscalers are no longer content to buy off the shelf: custom accelerators, in-house networking silicon, and heterogeneous compute architectures are reshaping who wins and how value is captured across the stack. Keeping track of this shifting landscape, vendor roadmaps, technology transitions, and where dollars are actually flowing, has become a moving target even for those closest to it.
The Data Center Processor Monitor is Yole Group's quarterly answer: a continuously updated view across the full processor and networking silicon scope, giving decision-makers the calibrated data and expert access they need to act with confidence rather than react to headlines.
It also serves as the gateway to Yole Group's complete data center portfolio, linking processor and networking insights to our dedicated analyses of memory, advanced packaging, photonics, and beyond.
Agentic AI ignites data center CPU demand as AI ASICs and GPUs push through memory cost pressure
Q2 2026 confirmed the AI buildout is only accelerating: data center CPU revenue rocketed +34.7% quarter-over-quarter, propelled by surging Agentic AI demand, the standout move of the quarter. GPUs held their position as the market's revenue leader, while AI ASIC revenue climbed +23.0%, both markets staying robust even as HBM memory cost pressure intensified across the stack. Tellingly, this growth was primarily ASP-driven rather than volume-driven: shipment growth trailed revenue growth in every segment, as supply tightness and silicon content increase generation after generation pushed prices higher throughout the data center processor market.
