The automotive processor market hit $10.8B in 2025, split between ADAS and infotainment. Growth is driven by centralized ADAS platforms, seeing massive adoption in China. The LiDAR market is also expanding rapidly on sustained Chinese demand, and DMS/OMS processors are growing fast under regulatory pressure. ADAS front-camera processor market is under pressure due to these architecture shifts. The infotainment processor market will grow steadily, led by the rising adoption of Agentic AI, telematics and V2X. Overall, processor demand is shifting toward high-performance computing for ADAS autonomy and infotainment, reshaping vehicle architecture over the next decade.
Chinese OEMs embrace in-house ADAS chip development, following Tesla’s lead
As software-defined vehicles, what we might now call “AI-defined vehicles” run ever more complex applications, processors are becoming strategic, and switching suppliers grows costly once an architecture is locked in. This dependency is pushing OEMs to build their own chips, as Tesla did and Rivian now follows. The trend is fiercest in China, where NIO, XPeng, Li Auto, and BYD are all going in-house. But matching the largest designers is hard, so many opt for co-development with players like Socionext, Alchip, GUC, Horizon, or Axera. The market split is telling. Mobileye leads standalone ADAS ahead of Nvidia, while Nvidia dominates central ADAS at >60%. In the cockpit, Qualcomm commands half the market, riding smartphone-grade UX and edge agentic AI.
Centralization and AI are driving the future architectures of automotive processors
The biggest growth driver in ADAS and Infotainment is centralization. Computing is consolidating onto central platforms and ultimately a single processor, pulling the most advanced chips into vehicles. This is no longer a high-end story, with BYD and Leapmotor bringing central ADAS to entry and mid-level cars. That shift is fueled by unprecedented demand for AI silicon. The industry wants to run models with billions of parameters locally to unlock higher autonomy, while infotainment moves toward on-device LLMs and agentic AI. Platforms now span from ~40mm² to ~400mm² on TSMC 5nm.The foundry battle is tightening as nodes advance. TSMC led automotive volume in 2025, and now captures the next Nvidia generation, while Samsung holds Tesla and SMIC anchors Huawei. To meet demand for AI capability and modularity, automotive is opening the door to chiplets, with the first products and an emerging open multi-vendor ecosystem set to reshape how processors are designed and built.
