There are three main Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filter technologies: SAW, Thermo-Compensated SAW (TC-SAW) and Multi-Layer SAW (ML-SAW). There are also stacked SAW filters. SAW filters typically use piezoelectric materials like lithium tantalite (LiTaO3 or LT) or lithium niobate (LiNbO3 or LN) as substrates. In most cases, the substrate is only based on LT or LN. In some cases, LT or LN substrate can be found bonded to silicon substrates, including piezo-on-insulator (POI).
Different companies compete in each of the three principal technologies. Numerous Asia-based companies, like Kyocera and Wisol, are involved in the pure SAW market. The TC-SAW and ML-SAW market is split between five players: Skyworks, Qorvo and three companies that have recently incorporated ML-SAW technology in their portfolio, Murata, in 2019, Qualcomm, in 2020, and most recently Broadcom.
This report provides insights on technology data for SAW filter technology for different suppliers. It includes a comparative study of 20 components from 13 different suppliers: ACT, Anuki, Broadcom, Skyworks, Kyocera, Murata, Qorvo, Qualcomm, Wisol, Sawnics, Shoulder, Tai-SAW and Taiyo Yuden. Precisely detailed physical and cost analyses are performed for the following players: Kyocera, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Ayunta /Anuki and ACT. For the other players like Murata, Wisol, Skyworks, Qorvo, Sawnics, TST and Shoulder, detailed cost analyses are provided.
Physical data for several components have been compared in terms of process flow, cost, and integration to provide a large panel of manufacturer technical and economic choices from the market. The report includes a description of each process flow for the SAW filter technologies on the market. It also contains a complete cost analysis of the processes.
