The 14th CS International builds on the strengths of its predecessors, with around 40 leaders from industry and academia delivering presentations that fall within five key themes: Ensuring SiC’s Phenomenal Success; Expanding Horizons for Surface Emitters; Accelerating the Growth of GaN; Taking Power from the Photon; and New Frontiers for the LED.
Those attending these sessions will be rewarded with greater insight into device technologies while learning of the latest opportunities and trends within the compound semiconductor industry. Delegates will also discover significant advances in tools and processes that enable enhanced yield and throughput.
Attendees at this two-day conference will also meet a wide variety of key players within the community, from investors and analysts to fab engineers and managers.
Yole Group will be part of the program with:

2:10pm: VCSELs: Driving Innovation in 3D Sensing and Data Communication
ABSTRACT:
Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) are pivotal in consumer and datacom markets, catalyzing 3D sensing and high-speed data transmission. Apple’s 2017 shift to GaAs-based VCSELs marked a game-changer, powering facial recognition and augmented reality. Lumentum and Coherent have steered 3D sensing, but a new entrant in Apple’s supply chain with innovative VCSEL technology may disrupt the status quo. Meanwhile, Artificial intelligence’s ascendancy demands higher data rates per wavelength, stretching optical communications. The future eyes 100G VCSELs, poised for substantial growth by 2024. Several companies are currently in the qualification phase, competing to establish their presence in this emerging market. The presentation will dissect the impact of the third player in Apple’s 3D sensing supply chain, AI’s influence, and GaAs VCSELs’ market projections over the next five years.

Ali Jaffal, Ph.D. is Technology & Market Analyst, Semiconductor Substrates & Materials at Yole Group.
He is deeply engaged in the development of a dedicated collection of compound semiconductor market & technology products.
Ali previously worked at CEA-Leti (France) as a research engineer. His mission was focused on the design, growth, and clean room processing of GaAs semiconductor nanowires for Visible-Infrared photodetectors. During his Ph.D., Ali investigated the epitaxy (MBE) of InP nanowires-quantum dots dedicated to telecom applications.
Ali (co-)authored numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and a patent on III-V nanowires at CEA-Leti. He also delivered several presentations and was invited to numerous seminars at national and international conferences.
Ali Jaffal obtained his master’s degree and Ph.D. in material science and optics from INSA (Lyon, France).
