ANALYST THURSDAY 2024 : What is expected in the era of global BEV slowdown?
Various hybrid technologies are overtaking BEVs in growth, further demonstrating there is no way back to pure ICE. This new electrification trend is accompanied by changes in technologies and supply chains, with new opportunities to be revealed in the discussion.
While growth in BEVs is slowing globally, some technological advances are quickly reshaping the industry and the supply chain. Hybrid technologies, including PHEV, REEV, and HEV, are picking up growth momentum in various major markets, which pushes the need for Si-based devices and dedicated solutions. Sub-systems in the electric powertrain are transitioning to e-axle-based powertrains and domain controllers, which can be best demonstrated with Yole’s teardown of BYD’s 8-in-1 system for cost and size reduction. The increasing implementation of SiC is another big trend in BEV. Critical features of SiC MOSFET module packaging are explained, as revealed in Yole’s comparative study of modules from leading players, Infineon and Semikron-Danfoss. Equally important, the SiC supply chain is rapidly evolving, revolutionizing application adoption (from high-end parts to all SiC systems) and restructuring the supply chain roles (both OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers moving upstream).
This webinar will highlight:
- Global xEV market overview: global BEV slowdown and fast-growing hybrids in various markets
- Decoding the highly integrated e-powertrain: what is inside the BYD 8-in-1, and what is the effect on cost
- Comparison study of automotive power modules from leading companies Infineon and Semikron-Danfoss,
- Increasing adoption of SiC: from high-end parts to all-SiC vehicles
- OEMs’ strategies in SiC: multi-sourcing, LTSA, direct investment, etc.
Although the major EV markets are experiencing slow growth of BEVs, we are seeing a new wave powered by the 800V adoption, >3C fast charging batteries, and high-power DC chargers. Power electronics, especially SiC, are one of the key drivers.
