Understand why miniLEDs and microLEDs are distinct technologies with different challenges, supply chains, market potential and applications.

The display industry is at a crossroads. Demand from smartphones and TVs, the two largest applications, is mostly saturated. Panel makers are striving to bring new functionality and disruptive performance to differentiate their products, increase their market shares and accelerate replacement cycles.

Many display technologies are emerging. Among them, miniLEDs and microLEDs have generated a lot of excitement over the last three years. There are no commonly accepted definitions and the terms are often used interchangeably, often in a misleading way, sometimes on purpose by companies trying to surf the hype.

This webcast will try to bring some clarity and provide definitions in term of sizes, technologies and applications, as well as supply chain requirements. The presentation will discuss recent progress as well as some remaining technology and supply chain bottlenecks. The status and prospects for each technology for the major consumer applications will be reviewed. The potential benefits and challenges of miniLEDs and microLEDs will be discussed in the context of existing and emerging display technologies such as flexible OLEDs, Quantum Dot Films, inkjet-printed OLEDs, electro-luminescent QDs and dual cell LCDs. Major applications such as smartphones, smartwatches, TVs, augmented reality and automotive will be discussed, as well as tentative adoption roadmaps.
