PROGRAM :
Historically driven by data communication applications, in the 2010s VCSEL began appearing in high-volume smartphone applications. The integration with sensors for proximity sensing and autofocus functions was only the beginning of VCSEL’s success story, and in 2017 Apple released the iPhone X, with a 3D sensing function based on VCSEL technology. In fact, the iPhone X integrates three different VCSEL dies for the proximity sensor and the Face ID module. This caused the VCSEL market to explode in 2017, with revenue jumping to ~$330M. Strong iPhone X sales have now triggered interest from other smartphone brands that are likely to integrate a 3D sensing function in future models.
So where does the VCSEL industrial landscape stand today? Is 3D sensing the killer application VCSEL has waited for? How can we further enhance the integration of VCSEL in sensors? Is intellectual property (IP) critical in this domain? Join Yole’s webcast for a discussion of these questions, and gain a better understanding of VCSEL business trends from several perspectives, including market and technology, reverse engineering/costing, and IP.
Yole Développement, System Plus Consulting and KnowMade invite you to watch this special webcast now.
The presentation will last 30 minutes and will be followed by a 30 minutes question and answer session with our analysts.
Speakers:
Pars Mukish holds a master degree in Materials Science & Polymers (ITECH – France) and a master degree in Innovation & Technology Management (EM Lyon – France). Since 2015, Pars has taken on responsibility for developing SSL and Display activities activities as Business Unit Manager at Yole Développement (Yole). Pars is part of the Photonics, Sensing & Display division at Yole. Previously, he has worked as Marketing Analyst and Techno-Economic Analyst for several years at the CEA (French Research Center).
Romain Fraux is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the company System Plus Consulting, specialized in the reverse costing analysis of electronics, from semiconductor devices to electronic systems. Supporting industrial companies in their development, Romain and his team are offering a complete range of services, costing tools and reports. They deliver in-depth production cost studies and estimate objective selling price of a product, all based on a detailed physical analysis of each component in System Plus Consulting laboratory. Thanks to his deep technical expertise and his knowledge of the industrial landscape, Romain performs costing analyses of MEMS devices, Integrated Circuit and Advanced Packaging. He has significant experience in the modeling of the manufacturing costs of electronics components as well. Romain has spoken in more than 20 industry conferences worldwide over the last 10 years. Romain holds a BEng from Heriot-Watt University of Edinburgh (Scotland) in addition to a master’s degree in Microelectronics from the University of Nantes (France).
Dr. Paul Leclaire works for Knowmade in the fields of RF technologies, Wireless communications and MEMS sensors. He holds a PhD in Micro and Nanotechnology from the University of Lille (France), in partnership with IEMN in Villeneuve-d’Ascq and CRHEA-CNRS in Sophia-Antipolis (France). Paul previously worked in innovation strategy consulting firm as Consultant.
Moderator:
As part of the Commercial & Communication team of Yole Développement (Yole), Fayçal El Khamassi serves as a Global Sales Support & Coordinator. He is in charge of the development of technology & market reports activity and is closely working with the international sales team to support Yole’s customers.
