About Yole Group
Apple has launched their new product, the Vision Pro a virtual reality headset. The heart of the new experience proposed by the Vision Pro lies in their both display micro-OLED from Sony. With more 11 million pixels per eye, the Vision Pro delivers a high-quality virtual reality experience. The configuration chosen by Apple, a large micro-display before each eye is perfect for the micro-OLEd displays because it is not necessary to develop a important light power because there is no loss of light unlike the technologies with deported light.
Sony has developed a technology to add the OLED layer just up to a large CMOS die. The analysis reveals the complexity of the structure with the reflective mirrors , the individual electrodes, the problem of the resistivity of the commune electrode, the color filters structure and the optical cavities.
Today costly, with a price upper at $300 per display, this technology has the potential to decrease toward the $100 with better yields.
This reverse costing study provides insights into technological data, manufacturing cost, and selling price of the Sony micro-OLED display in the Apple Vision Pro. These analyses provide the technical intelligence necessary to understand this technology. To reveal all the details of the Sony micro-OLED display, this report features multiple analyses. One is a front-end construction analysis to study the key features of the OLED layer integration. Moreover, this report includes a detailed study of the die cross-sections. In addition to a complete analysis by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) cross-sections, material analyses, and delayering. Furthermore, the report includes a description of the manufacturing process. This information combined with supply chain analysis allows us to calculate the costs of each production step and estimate the final selling price of the module.
