Lumentum, Innovium achieve 400G FR4 transceiver, TERALYNX Switch ASIC interoperability

Lumentum Holdings and switch chip maker Innovium, say they have established interoperability between Lumentum’s 400G QSFP-DD FR4 optical transceivers and Innovium’s 12.8-Tbps TERALYNX Switch ASIC. The Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSFP-DD) Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) specifications describe an optical transceiver form factor for 200-Gbps and 400-Gbps applications, particularly 400 Gigabit Ethernet. Demonstrations of QSFP-DD optical modules have been highlights of both OFC and ECOC this year.

“Successful 12.8-Tbps TERALYNX interoperability testing builds on Lumentum’s OFC 2018 demonstration of 2-km optical fiber data traffic flow through a QSFP-DD FR4 optical module,” said Justin Abbott, senior product line manager at Lumentum. “Lumentum is poised to deliver MSA-compliant, fully tested, high-performance solutions as the industry prepares for the 400G transition.”

TERALYNX, meanwhile, features line-rate programmability, large on-chip buffers, advanced telemetry, and low-latency, says Innovium. The switch chip supports 10GbE to 400GbE and provides 128 ports of 100GbE, 64 ports of 200GbE, or 32 ports of 400GbE in a single device.
