YG PRESS NEWS – RF GaN industry: forging partnerships and unveiling cutting-edge prototypes

Product Related

The momentum of RF GaN-on-SiC has been reinvigorated thanks to the deployment of 5G base stations. Concurrently, there has been a notable acquisition in the dynamic GaN-on-Si field.

  • Anticipated to be primarily fueled by 5G telecom infrastructure, the RF GaN market is poised to surpass the US$2 billion mark by 2028.
  • In 2023, several manufacturers are expediting the integration of GaN into their systems to keep pace with the resurgence of 5G deployment.
  • The maturation of GaN-on-Si becomes evident through the partnerships established and prototypes unveiled.

According to Yole Intelligence, part of Yole Group, in the RF GaN Compound Semiconductor Market Monitor, the Radio Frequency (RF) GaN market is still heavily influenced by the dominant 5G telecom infrastructure market. Notably, leading device manufacturers like Qorvo and Wolfspeed have reported a deceleration in revenue since the fourth quarter of 2022. Nevertheless, Yole Intelligence’s analysts anticipate the continued adoption of GaN-on-SiC RF devices over silicon LDMOS in the telecom infrastructure sector, primarily due to substantial investments slated for India in the latter half of 2023 and 2024. The RF GaN market is expected to surpass US$2 billion by 2028, primarily propelled by the growth of the 5G telecom infrastructure. MACOM’s recent acquisition of OMMIC serves as a precursor to its US$125 million agreement to acquire Wolfspeed’s RF Business, which includes RF GaN-on-SiC technology. This strategic move not only bolsters MACOM’s market presence but also reshapes the landscape of the RF GaN industry… For more information about this analysis, please contact us!
