Yole Group corporate presentation
A recent Yole Intelligence market report has shown the continued growth of miniLED BLU integration for TV, monitor and tablet market, as well as the adoption of these systems in various applications ranging from consumer electronics to automotive applications. According to Yole intelligence, the miniLED market is expected to reach 63 million units by the year 2027, and the adoption of miniLED devices in various consumer applications is driving the growth of this segment.
BLU displays offer the advantages of improved contrast and reduced blooming area, to reduce the thickness of the display and the power consumption. Five different designs have been chosen for this report, ranging the iPad Pro 2021 12.9” up to large 85” TV from TCL. The 5 displays show very different solutions with active or passive matrices, PCB or glass panels and thin or thicker structures. The costs of these BLU varies depending on the design choices, though a look into the various cost components can lead to a number of improvements and more adoption of BLU technologies.
In this report, Yole SystemPlus presents an overview of the state-of-the-art of miniLED BLU modules used in various displays to highlight differences in miniLED BLU design and their impact on device thickness and production cost. Five different displays, from Apple, Samsung (TV and Monitor), TCL and Skyworth, with diagonal ranging from 12.9” – 85”, were chosen, and the miniLED, and driver IC devices in these displays have been analyzed. Moreover, the PCB assembly and the optical coating and film choices were also analyzed together with their impact on BLU production cost.
This report provides detailed optical and SEM pictures of the BLU, with a focus on the miniLEDs and their drivers.. Also included is a BOM analysis of the 5 global BLUs with miniLED, drivers, PCB, and optical filters . The estimated manufacturing cost of the analyzed BLU and their selling prices are also presented, along with physical, technological, and manufacturing cost comparisons between the analyzed devices.
