Qorvo breaks power barrier with 10W Ka-band GaN amplifier

At IMS 2019 in Boston this week, Qorvo has unveiled a MMIC power amplifier for defence applications that delivers more than 10Wof saturated power over the 32-38GHz band. The company claims this is the highest performing MMIC on the market.

Built on Qorvo’s GaN-on-Sic technology, the 10W TGA2222 provides 16dB of large-signal gain, 25dB small-signal gain and a power-added efficiency greater than 22 percent. It delivers this extended RF power in a smaller die, which reduces size, weight and number of components to create a simple but powerful solution for radar and electronic warfare applications.

Roger Hall, general manager of Qorvo’s High Performance Solutions business, said: “The increasing demand for higher data rates across all markets continues to drive the need for better-performing RF solutions. With the TGA2222, Qorvo is delivering a breakthrough MMIC with the industry’s highest levels of power and bandwidth for Ka-band defence applications.”
