Made for parents, by parents: StethoMe uses AI to identify respiratory issues in children

-CE certified, StethoMe analyses readings and shares the results with doctors who make the ultimate decision-

-Designed to ease the strain on healthcare professionals by reducing the number of unnecessary GP or hospital visits

– StethoMe, an AI startup focussed on the world of healthcare, announces its groundbreaking new medical diagnostics device has been awarded European CE certification for its wireless stethoscope device and the AI algorithms it uses to examine children’s lung and heart recordings. StethoMe is set to revolutionise the way parents can monitor their children for early signs of respiratory issues at home with the first smart wireless stethoscope capable of detecting, classifying and analysing pathological sounds within children’s lungs using medical grade precision. The certification StethoMe has received is the world’s first, which is hugely significant. The consistency between doctors in the recognition of auscultation sounds in primary care is very low – ranging from 20% to 80%*. Examinations with a traditional stethoscope depend on the experience and parameters of the physician’s auditory system. Medically tested, StethoMe has shown to increase accuracy by up to 13%. An improved examination and the use of AI means parents can examine their children safe in the knowledge that doctors can make informed decisions based on far superior readings. StethoMe empowers parents with a simple-to-use device and app which guides them through each examination. Results are shared directly with a doctor who then advises as to whether that child needs to visit a doctor or emergency room, or can remain at home under close supervision. The result: peace of mind for parents and a reduced burden on healthcare professionals by reducing the amount of unnecessary GP or hospital visits. StethoMe offers incomparably higher sound level and quality compared with other stethoscopes available on the market. In contrast to traditional stethoscopes, StethoMe enables auscultation of a patient’s lungs and heart and is able to analyse recordings for the lungs using sophisticated AI algorithms. “There are two main issues facing primary care. Firstly, the high rate of misdiagnosis that occurs (cases of delayed, missed, and incorrect diagnosis are common – in the range of 10 per cent to 20 per cent and, secondly, the very high number of unnecessary visits (up to 70 per cent in the US). We are beginning to see AI affect the world we live in substantially and the healthcare sector is no different. This is why we created StethoMe – to help address these challenges,” said Wojciech Radomski, CEO, StethoMe. “What is unique about StethoMe is that we’re not a team of scientists or inventors who decided to create a product like this. Most of us are parents of young children who have faced challenging times where we’ve needed to visit doctors regularly. After experiencing these problems we decided to do something about it, and offer parents a better way to ensure their children are healthy,” added Honorata Hafke-Dys Phd., Chief Medical Officer and co-founder, StethoMe. “There’s no doubt that AI technology is becoming increasingly prominent within healthcare. It’s the future, and we’re excited to be at the forefront of this with StethoMe. When you combine this with telemedicine and how its being adopted across the globe to ease the pressure faced by healthcare professionals, we believe we have created something very special.” With consumer availability of StethoMe to be announced later this year, the company has already been awarded multiple awards and is supported by institutions including: Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna?, Pozna? University of Medical Sciences, Children’s University Hospital in Lublin, Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in Rabka-Zdrój and more.
