Yole Group Corporate Presentation
Recovery is finally underway, although slower than anticipated
Demand for semiconductor test equipment reached its lowest point in Q2 2023, with sales totaling $1,908 million. The last time quarterly sales were below this level was over 3 years ago, and the rapid decline has caused significant strain throughout the entire supply chain. Japanese and Chinese suppliers have been most affected due to weak memory markets and overcapacity in the domestic Chinese market.
On the positive side, the recovery is now underway, as both buyers and suppliers are currently reporting a meaningful increase in activity. Orders for new equipment are uneven in this early phase, with some chipmakers placing large orders, while others are adopting a watchful approach, waiting before committing to capital expenditures. Test equipment for advanced logic and power devices is leading the surge, while continued weakness in China and two of the major memory makers is moderating overall growth.
The outlook for 2023 indicates a 14% decrease compared to 2022, with high single-digit growth expected for 2024 and 2025
