Aim Infrarot-Module purchases third Veeco MBE system to drive further advancements in infrared detectors

Infrared manufacturer once again selects Veeco’s GEN20™ system based on superior results, system reliability and throughput.

Veeco Instruments announced that AIM Infrarot-Module (AIM) has purchased Veeco’s GEN20™ automated molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system. AIM, a manufacturer of premium infrared detectors and thermal sights, cited the outstanding performance and reliability of Veeco’s MBE system as the basis for its decision to acquire a third GEN20.

The prior GEN20 systems have delivered excellent results for AIM. Particularly noteworthy are the reliability of the MBE sources and performance of the substrate heater across demanding temperature and growth environments. In addition, Veeco’s scientific support has helped AIM excel in creating industry- infrared detectors for research, industrial, security and environmental protection applications.

Veeco’s GEN20 is a flexible MBE system with a design configurable for Mercury-Cadmium-Telluride devices, other II-VI compound semiconductors, and traditional III-V materials. A key benefit of the GEN20 system is its cluster tool wafer transfer system, which is ideal for AIM’s efforts to scale from lab to fab for short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) to long-wave infrared (LWIR) and especially multispectral technologies.

The current demand for advancements in infrared detectors, along with challenges in the SWIR to LWIR, requires state-of-the-art MBE technologies and performance that only Veeco can deliver,” said Drew Hanser, Ph.D., vice president of technology for Veeco’s compound semiconductor business unit. “AIM’s decision to add to its existing portfolio of Veeco tools validates our team’s commitment to superior product performance and dedication to helping our customers achieve their technology goals across a broad range of industries.”

Veeco is showcasing its latest innovations in Molecular Beam Epitaxy at EuroMBE 2019, February 17-20 at the Arabella Brauneck Hotel Conference Center in Lenggries, Germany.h
