Photonics West Show Daily 2024

Show Daily powered by Optics.org – Yole Group is fully part of Photonics West 2024, from January 27 to February 02 2024 in San Francisco. This event is where the latest advances are shared by the optics and photonics community in lasers, biomedical optics and biophotonic technologies, displays, quantum, and optoelectronics.

This year, Jean-Christophe Eloy, CEO and President of Yole Group took part in the inaugural SPIE Global Business Forum.

More than 220 executives and key stakeholders from the photonics community were served up a veritable buffet of photonics-market analysis and industry insight at the inaugural SPIE Global Business Forum. An impressive lineup of international analysts and industry insiders delivered talks covering global market data and trends impacting the global photonics industry. (…)

Adding more detail on the optoelectronics front, Jean-Christophe Eloy from Yole Group tipped microLEDs and silicon photonics as two technologies that would drive the next growth cycle of the photonics industry, before the audience gained a Wall Street perspective with the thoughts of Needham & Company’s Brian Perrault. Emphasizing the ongoing impact of higher interest rates that ended the “cheap money” era and have subdued merger and acquisitions activity, he pointed to the growing influence of private equity firms seeing photonics technologies as a way to unlock value in large end markets… Read the full article page 3.

In addition, Yole Group’s analysts have taken part to three sessions:

  • MicroLED, From Sprint to Marathon?
  • Photonics Technologies for Datacom: Complement or Compete?
  • VCSELs: Driving innovations in 3D sensing and data communication

In this occasion, Optics.org published a daily coverage of the optics & photonics industry and the markets that it serves, including Yole Group‘s analysts exclusive interviews:

MicroLEDs have plenty of promise, but are they ready to take over for OLED in the marketplace?

At Yole Group, we estimate that exiting 2023, the industry has spent about $12 billion on microLED development and industrialization. Another $2.4 billion has been spent on mergers and acquisitions. This still pales compared to the more than $100 billion spent building OLED fabs since the mid-2000s, but still, it shows strong momentum. All display makers now have sizable microLED activities…
